Dr. Fogleman Observations

Today is my third day at Narragansett High. Today I am observing Mr. Zabel's advisory and his ecology class. This was my first time seeing his advisory since there was testing the past two times I had observed. This was also an experience because he has an all freshman advisory. Advisory started with the kids all talking and not really paying attention to the announcements. After announcements were over, a few kids bounces a small ball back and forth to each other while the others just sat in groups and talked. Mr. Zabel pretty much lets the kids do what they want during advisory as long as it does not get out of control.
Next period starts with Ecology and the class starts with quiz. This class is a little louder and talkative than the other classes that I have observed. However, they complete the quizzes in about 20 minutes and they all did pretty well. (I graded them as they were turned in.) After the quiz, the students split into groups to work on their biosphere projects. This gave me a chance to walk around and talk to the groups.
It was the first day of workinon this project so there was not a ton of assisting that I could do, sinces they were pretty much just putting water and plants into a container. It was interesting observing the groups though. There were some groups where all four members were working equally, but there were other groups where two students wree doing stuff and the others were just watching. Mr. Zabel would ask these students how things were going and would help where he could.
Reflection
This was an interesting day and a new experience for me. It was my first time with freshmen, which was a pretty good experience. Also, I got to see a quiz be administered and also got to work witht he groups. It was interesting to see how Mr. Zabel would try to engage the students who were not working as hard in their groups. He would ask them questions about their biosphere and if the students didn't have an answer it was a way of him telling them to get to work. I also enjoyed being able to walk around and interact with the students. Overall, this was a good day and I am enjoying my days more and more at Narragansett High.
